Clinical Spotlight: Headgear
The above correction in Patient A shows the before & after 6-12 months of Headgear correction. By correcting the Class II Malocclusion (molar occlusion or bite) it allows us to correct the excess overbite, and flared front teeth, bringing them into their proper bite, and allowing the remaining teeth to grow in properly.
The second picture, Patient B shows the skeletal changes that Headgear treatment can have, by holding the upper jaw (Maxilla) back and encouraging forward growth of the lower jaw to create skeletal harmony and balance the profile. This type of Headgear treatment is only effective during a period of active growth, before and during the pubertal growth spurt.
