Although Halloween is right around the corner, don’t forget that October is also Orthodontic Health Month!
Try to take some time this month to ensure you’re keeping your teeth & braces clean, healthy & happy.
Remember to avoid foods that are hard, crunchy, chewy or too sweet (high in refined sugars).
Although we don’t encourage too many sweets (even the below ortho-friendly treats), if you have them, make sure you brush and rinse after enjoying your treats!
More so than the exposure to refined sugars, it’s the duration (length of time) of exposure that causes those cavities
Dr. Yoon is a huge fan of making traditional snacks and sweets healthier and full of whole foods nutrients. With a few healthy substitutions you can enjoy delicious sweers without sacrificing taste :).
- Banana Ice Cream: Place 2 frozen bananas into a food processor. Add mix-ins of your choice (1-2 tablespoons of almond butter or nutella is my favorite). And Blend & Enjoy!

- Caramel Apple Slices: Thinly slice apples (I love Granny smith). Prepare “Caramel” (blend in food processor: 6 large Medjool dates, pitted, 1/2 cup water or almond milk, 1-2 tablespoon coconut oil, 1/4 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp vanilla extract). Drizzle and enjoy!
